Welcome to the Fiesta en la Playa Team ​ 

See some trash? Pick it up. Notice tables that need straightening or an area that needs attention? Take care of it. The little things add up and help keep the festival looking great.

If someone looks lost, confused, or needs help, offer it. If you don’t know the answer, don’t guess. Help them find a staff member or supervisor who does.

If your area is slow, check with your department lead to see where you can help. Another department may be getting slammed while yours is quiet. Stay involved and look for ways to be useful.

If you notice a problem, safety concern, upset guest, or an area that needs extra help, tell your department lead or supervisor. Good communication keeps small problems from becoming big ones.

Your department assignment is your primary responsibility during your shift. Your department lead will provide additional instructions, but the descriptions below will give you a good idea of what to expect.

You’re one of the first faces our guests will see, so a friendly welcome matters! Your job is to keep guests moving through the entrance quickly while making sure everyone entering has the proper ticket or wristband.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Welcoming guests as they arrive
• Scanning and verifying tickets
• Checking and distributing wristbands
• Keeping entrance lines organized and moving
• Answering basic festival questions
• Directing guests to stages, activities, VIP, restrooms, vendors, and other areas
• Getting a department lead when there is a ticket or entry issue you cannot resolve

This is one of our most hands-on departments! You’ll help keep Fiesta en la Playa’s contests and activities organized, fun, safe, and running on schedule.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Checking in registered contestants
• Assisting around the Lucha Libre and entertainment areas
• Helping organize contestant lines and waiting areas
• Preparing activity and contest areas
• Assisting with the Chihuahua Races
• Assisting with the Spicy Tamale Eating Contest
• Assisting with the Chancla Throwing Contest
• Helping with piñatas and other scheduled activities
• Helping manage crowds around activity areas
• Resetting and cleaning areas between activities
• Helping keep contests running on schedule

The Bar Team is responsible for keeping our beverage areas running safely, efficiently, and professionally. This will be a busy department, so teamwork, accuracy, and following all alcohol-service procedures are extremely important.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Serving beer, margaritas, water, and other approved beverages
• Checking for proper drink tickets before serving
• Following all required age-verification and alcohol-service procedures
• Keeping bar lines moving efficiently
• Restocking ice, beverages, cups, and supplies
• Keeping bar counters and surrounding areas clean throughout the day
• Monitoring supplies and notifying your lead before something runs low
• Communicating with the Drink Ticket Team when needed
• Immediately reporting intoxicated, aggressive, or problematic guests to your lead or security
• Helping with opening, restocking, and closing procedures

Alcohol Service Is Taken Seriously
Never serve alcohol without following the procedures provided by your Bar Lead and Festival Management. When in doubt, stop and ask your lead.
Staff should never argue with a guest over alcohol service. If there is a problem, refusal of service, or an upset guest, get your Bar Lead or security involved.

Stay Ahead of the Rush
Don’t wait until you’re out of something to say something. Keep an eye on ice, cups, beverages, and other supplies throughout your shift. A little preparation during slower periods can make a huge difference when the bar gets slammed.

Keeping Fiesta en la Playa clean is an all-day responsibility, not something that happens only after the festival closes. With thousands of people on the grounds, this team plays a major role in the guest experience.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Continuously checking public areas for trash
• Emptying and maintaining trash receptacles
• Keeping tables and seating areas clean
• Checking walkways and high-traffic areas
• Cleaning around food, activity, and entertainment areas
• Responding to spills or areas needing immediate attention
• Helping keep staff and operational areas clean
• Reporting anything hazardous or requiring additional assistance

Floaters are our go-where-you’re-needed team. You may work in several different areas throughout your shift depending on what is happening around the festival.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Helping departments experiencing heavy crowds or long lines
• Moving supplies and materials
• Assisting with activities and contests
• Helping guests with directions and questions
• Checking festival areas for anything needing attention
• Helping with cleanup when needed
• Filling temporary positions while another employee takes a break
• Jumping into another department when directed by your lead

You’re representing Fiesta en la Playa while you’re working, so we expect everyone to arrive looking clean, comfortable, and ready for the day.

• Staff Shirt: Your Fiesta en la Playa staff shirt should be worn during your shift.
• Staff Badge/Lanyard: Keep your staff credentials visible while working.
• Shorts/Pants: Wear appropriate, comfortable shorts or pants suitable for working outdoors.
• Shoes: Comfortable shoes are highly recommended. You’ll likely be doing plenty of walking and standing.
• Be Weather Ready: Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and anything else you may need for a long day outside.
• Stay Hydrated: Texas in September is still Texas. Drink plenty of water throughout your shift.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled shift so you have time to check in, get to your department, and receive any instructions before starting.

All employees must check in at the designated Staff Check-In Area before beginning their shift. From there, you’ll report to your department lead.

Do not simply leave when your scheduled time arrives. Check with your department lead first, make sure your position is covered, and receive approval before checking out for the day.

Certain departments and leads will have radios or other methods of communication during the festival. Follow your department lead’s instructions on how your team will communicate.

Breaks will be coordinated through your department lead. Please do not leave your assigned area for a break without letting your lead know first so we can make sure your position is covered.

If you’re running late or have an emergency that prevents you from working your scheduled shift, contact us as soon as possible. Please do not wait until after your shift has already started.

Good communication is extremely important during Fiesta en la Playa. With thousands of guests, vendors, performers, activities, and multiple departments operating at once, we need information going to the right people.

Josh and Tom will be overseeing the entire festival and may not always be immediately available. Please go through your department lead for normal questions and everyday issues rather than contacting Josh or Tom directly.
